How to play the game

Find Professor Indiana, journalist, who has been captured by the villainous S-Quad because he wanted to share the secrets of truth-sleuthing with his loyal readers. The object of the game is to find Professor Indy and learn about truth-sleuthing.

1

Search For Clues

Players enter the first of six rooms. In each room they enter they can personalize their avatar. Once they do, the game transports them to the Middle East. Here they search for clues among artifacts, learning objects, and landmarks as begin to unravel the big-picture mystery of the room. The first mystery is: Why are some civilizations more advanced than others today?

2

Break The Code

In each of the six puzzle rooms, players will first see an instruction video and a Code Breaker.  The Code Breaker is a tool players use to organize their clues as they move throughout the room.  By following the steps in the Code Breaker, players can ultimately unravel the code they need to unlock the portal to the next room.

3

Gain Insight

Learning objects throughout the room open access to the gamemaster, an AI-powered knowledge avatar named Zakiyah. Students learn to develop pointed questions to gain important insights during their hunt. In the following example, a player tries to match the name of a Middle Eastern country with its symbolic learning object:

Player: What makes Saudi Arabia unique?

Zakiyah: This country is best known for its vast oil reserves and the widely misunderstood role of women in their society. Although King Salman just lifted the world's only ban on women drivers in 2017, media misrepresentation has contributed to Saudi Arabian stereotypes.

3

Persevere

By the time players have exited the sixth room, they will have enhanced social emotional and 21st Century Super Skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. They would also have built resilience while persevering through exciting code-breaking challenges to achieve the longer-term goal of unlocking each portal.

What our gamers say

Gaming can have a significant impact on student learning and many studies have shown it to be very effective as students are more engaged and motivated to learn while they are having fun. But don’t take our word for it, see what our gamers are saying.

I am fortunate to have all these online games ready to go!

“This class couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. Like most schools, mine is closed … and we are starting distance learning for our students … I am fortunate to have all these online games ready to go! … Thanks for all the gaming options and the game learning motivation and strategies you’ve shared with us!”

extremely relevant to the current student reality.

“I think this course is extremely relevant to the current student reality. Students are distracted by many things but often find solace in the cooperative, social experience of games. Adults do it all the time!”

thanks for making social studies entertaining

“I just wanted to say thanks for making social studies entertaining and interesting. You taught me how not to fall for fake news which became really helpful this year in 8th grade when we started studying our own independent subjects and I saw my peers, who weren’t in your class, getting the wrong information because they weren’t taught truth sleuthing from Indiana Royster.”

I also LOVE building stuff to help make a difference

“I have had a great year with you! I love 3D Gamelab [Where's Professor Indy? In the Middle East]. It’s so much better than worksheets. I think the awards and points are cool too. I’ve learned a lot more than past years. I also LOVE building stuff to help make a difference.”
